Description

The Mechanical Engineering team is comprised of specialist automotive engineers. With a combination of practical and analytical backgrounds, they apply their knowledge and expertise to the development of vehicles into rewarding products. The areas of development are focused on chassis related vehicle attributes, including: noise vibration and harshness (NVH), vehicle dynamics, braking, performance and durability. In addition, our road load data (RLD) and analysis specialists offer their own correlation services as well as internal support to other areas of the function and to the whole company.

As a result of strong growth within the performance and durability department a project engineer vacancy has become available.  The position will involve exposure to the following activities:

  • Management of structural durability projects - passenger car and commercial
  • Management of powertrain durability projects - passenger car and commercial
  • Overseeing vehicle performance projects - passenger car and commercial
  • Management of whole vehicle corrosion projects - passenger car
  • Support of PSQC quality programs - passenger car
  • Inter department working with road load data colleagues and the wider driven attribute team 
  • Environmental durability work (HET + CET)
Experience

Essential experience for this role would include:

  • Sound automotive test experience
  • Detailed knowledge of vehicle systems
  • Experience in an automotive test function
  • Experience of writing detailed engineering reports
  • Experience of vehicle powertrain test techniques
  • Experience of performing risk assessments
  • Experience of engineering material science 
  • Vehicle performance test experience
  • Experience of working with HV vehicles

Desirable experience for this role would include:

  • Commercial vehicle test experience
  • Setting durability attribute targets 
  • Ncode glyph works experience
  • Vehicle corrosion experience
  • Vehicle quality assessment experience
  • Experience in vehicle benchmarking
  • Experience of racelogic data logging equipment
Skills

Essential skills for this role would include:

  • Data analysis and instrumentation skills
  • Practical experience of automotive systems (passenger car)
  • Report writing
  • Able to communicate at all levels of the business and with customers
  • Able to work under pressure with tight timescales
  • Ability to work flexibly on a wide range of projects at any one time
  • Able to assess risk and write detailed risk assessments
  • Experience of Microsoft office applications including Excel and Powerpoint

Desirable skills for this role would include:

  • Practical experience of automotive systems (commercial vehicle)
  • Knowledge of RDE test techniques and powertrain performance testing 
  • HGV licence
Qualifications

Essential qualifications for this role would include:

  • A good engineering degree
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable qualifications for this role would include:

  • Commercial vehicle driving licence
  • Motorcycle driving licence
