Description

We are recruiting a vehicle Dynamics Consultant to join our team. Reporting directly to the Department Manager; this role will be the subject matter expert working both independently and as part of the wider team to deliver vehicle dynamics attribute performance as part of our vehicle development programmes, providing subject matter expertise and knowledge throughout the engineering process.

  • The role will operate as a senior member of the Vehicle Dynamics team under the technical guidance of the Vehicle Dynamics Chief Engineer and supported by the attribute simulation team where required.
  • The role will be highly customer focused, being the point of contact and technical lead for the project, representing HORIBA MIRA both in the UK and at times abroad. This role will be based at the MIRA Technology Park but may involve travel

Other key areas of responsibility are but not limited to:

  • To support commercial teams on enquiry development, project scope and approach definition.
  • Delivery of continuous improvement projects to improve internal process and procedure of the team
  • The role may include support of the team’s research and development into new technology
Experience

Essential Experience

  • A track record in automotive vehicle dynamics testing and development.
  • Held leading roles within the vehicle dynamics discipline
  • 10+ years of experience within the vehicle dynamics attribute

Preferred Experience

  • Operating as a team leader for vehicle dynamics or chassis system teams
  • Experience of control systems such as SCS, EPAS and AEB
  • Published technical papers and presented at conferences 
Skills
  • The role will require the candidate to deliver customer projects, either as part of standalone vehicle dynamics projects or as part of a complete vehicle development programme.
  • Providing support and guidance to other team members in the delivery of their assigned projects.
  • The candidate will need a broad range of knowledge in vehicle level attribute development across the complete engineering spectrum:
    • Competitor benchmarking
    • Target setting and cascade to system and component level
    • Initial concept development and virtual engineering
    • Design maturation
    • Vehicle level testing, development and signoff
  • The candidate will be experienced in the subjective evaluation and objective measurement of the vehicle dynamics attribute to quantify the vehicle performance and provide development direction.
  • The candidate will need to liaise with both MIRA and customer design teams to ensure attribute requirements are met.
  • A good understanding of virtual engineering tools will be required to effectively utilise the attribute simulation team to meet the attribute target performance during the virtual development phase of the project
  • Support the development of the Vehicle Dynamics capability
  • The role may also need to support the commercial teams with enquiry development, project scope and approach definition.
  • To develop and manage external customer and internal research projects within the Vehicle Dynamics team and providing technical support and knowledge to team members
  • Manage and oversee continuous improvement projects to develop internal process and procedures that maximise our capability and increase our efficiencies.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Engineering degree in appropriate discipline (ie Mechanical or Automotive Engineering or a similar scope)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Trained to PG level 4 or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer, CEng MIMechE or equivalent
  • Masters degree or PhD
