Description

HORIBA MIRA is a world-class, provider of Robotics and Autonomous Systems for use in Defence applications.

We are seeking a direct entry Graduate Mechanical Engineer to join a small, fast-moving team working to create advanced robot prototypes and autonomous vehicle products. For the right candidate, we offer an opportunity to work in this new and exciting autonomy sector.

The ideal candidate has relevant experience as part of their degree projects, personal interests or during a summer-time placement in automotive or manufacturing industries.

The team’s engineers build state of the art Unmanned Ground Vehicles and advanced prototype robotic systems. We offer a relaxed but hardworking environment where individuals are recognised for their personal performance.

The main purpose of the role is the design and development of mechanical components and systems for autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicles, robots and associated products

Experience

Mechanical design including proficiency in the use of CAD software

Skills

Essential

  • Ability to design concept and production level mechanical components and assemblies using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software.
  • Generation and interpretation of engineering drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills backed up by sound understanding of fundamental engineering principles.
  • Strong practical skills, including experience using hand and power tools to assist in building and testing prototype mechanical assemblies.
  • Dimensional and functional analysis of parts and failure analysis.
  • Excellent communications skills and the ability to work alone and as part of a team.

Desirable

  • Experience in modern manufacturing materials and processes such as 3D printing and laser cutting.
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering principles and electromechanical components.
Qualifications

Applicants should possess an Honours degree (min. 2:2) or Master’s degree in:

  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Product Design Engineering
